DeAndre Baker is now officially fighting for his freedom. The New York Giants defensive back has been formally charged by Broward State Attorney Mike Satz with four counts of theft with a firearm, per Pat Leonard from New York Daily News, stemming from an incident in May that also initially involved Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar. While Dunbar, 28, will not face charges due to insufficient evidence, Baker faces more than 10 years in life in prison on each count.

Just a day after Dunbar was not charged, the NFL removed him from the exonerated list on Saturday. He can join the Seahawks on Sunday, by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Dunbar, acquired by Seattle in an off-season trade with Washington, is expected to start at the corner corner for the Seahawks.

Baker and Dunbar were initially arrested on warrants that claimed to have robbed revelers at gunpoint before escaping in expensive getaway vehicles. The allegations have sparked a mountain of infighting between legal parties on both sides, but while Dunbar has found an exonerating solution, Baker will now stand trial.

The NFL issued the following statement, via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network: “We have followed all the developments of the question which remains under study.”

Baker’s senior attorney, Bradford Cohen, also issued a statement, albeit much more scathing.

“Disgusting,” he wrote on Instagram. “And no, I will not hold back on behalf of this young man. Accusing a young man on the basis of the testimony of open liars is the reason why we need to change Broward on behalf of the old guard. I implore you. all to go out and vote.

“Don’t waste your vote. There are candidates who will change the landscape of how the justice system works. We will now expose the hypocrisy at the filing level, the way the public prosecutor’s office has teamed up with it. these convicts, criminals, and offered to come and explain why they had changed their history several times without fear of prosecution, that they had been informed that we were reporting the extortion.

“The depositor in this case has sought all possible means, and at odds with his colleagues to indict this case. I will make a more formal statement on this process.”
