Gatis Čakšs and Līna Mūze become Latvian champions in javelin throwing

In the men’s javelin throwing competition, Chaksh won with a result of 83.80 meters in the third attempt, which is his best result this season. On July 21, he orchestrated a spear in Orimatil at a distance of 83.45 meters.

On Saturday, he broadcast “peaks” five times over the 81-meter limit. Each of them would have been enough to defend the title of Latvian champion won for the first time last year.

In the first attempt he threw a spear at a distance of 82.10 meters, in the second – 81.63 meters, but the fourth attempt was not counted for Chaksh. After that, he threw twice more than 82 meters – 82.16 and 82.40 meters, earning the title of Latvian champion.

It was also the most valuable result of the first day in the competition of participants of all disciplines, earning 1155 points in the World Athletics Association (WA) discipline comparison tables.

The second place with 70.24 meters was earned by Jānis Svens Grīva, taking the silver in the last shot by Matīss Velps (69.70 m).

The 2016 European champion Zigismunds Sirmais also took part in the eight-participant competition, recovering from the operation. He finished fourth with 62.92 meters.

For the third time in the summer, Līna Mūze became the champion for women, who won the very attractive competition, changing the leader several times with a result of 60.10 meters.

She achieved this in the third attempt, throwing a “spike” of 54.70 meters in the first, 58.14 meters in the second, earning zero in the fourth and fifth, and sending a spear 56.27 meters in the last shot.

Madara Palameika, who took the second place with 58.70 meters in the second attempt, and Anete Kociņa, who also had a chance of 12 centimeters less in the second shot, also took the lead in the competition of nine athletes.

The results of Mūze, Palameika and Kociņa on the first day of the competition were third, fourth and fifth in all disciplines.

Rūta Kate Lasmane, the winner of last year’s European U-20 Championship in Sweden, won the highest value in the women’s competition.

In his fourth attempt he jumped 13.82 meters, which set a new Latvian U-20 record and put him sixth behind Gundega Sproģe (14.76 m), Jelena Blaževiča (14.55 m), Ineta Radeviča ( 14.12 m), Olga Savenkova (13.91 m) and Ināra Curko (13.88 m).

She set the Latvian U-20 record for herself, correcting it for the third year in a row. In 2018, she jumped 13.54 meters, last year – 13.57 meters.

In WA’s comparative tables, it gave 1,099 points, 19 points more than for Muse.

Sprinters entered the top five of the top day’s high scores. Sixth was the 100-meter champion Cindy Buck, with a score of 1,046 points in 11.73 seconds, and seventh – Martha Marx in the same distance with barriers – 13.97 seconds (p. 1022).

The eighth highest result was achieved in 400 meters, where Artūrs Pastors finished after 47.39 seconds, scoring 1020 points. The ninth place is taken by the “Ausekļa” team in the women’s 4×100 meter relay, in which Bukša, Anna Pauls Auziņa, Pauls Katrīna Skalberga and Asnāte Kalniņa ran, completing the lap in 46.95 seconds (1015 points), and the tenth place – again by Bukša, performed in 11.96 seconds (999 p.).

The following Latvian champions on the first day of the competition in Jelgava were: Emīls Kristofers Jonāss in 100 meters (10.74 seconds), Patrīcija Cīrule in 400 meters (56.37 seconds), Jānis Razgalis (3: 54.68) and Kamilla Vanadziņa (4:33, 26) 1500 meters, Alberts Blajs (9: 09.75) and Alīna Sokunova (11: 27.77) in the 3000-meter hurdles race, Daugavpils School of Individual Sports (Erland Gipters, Etienne Viktors Belašovs, Nikita Ivanovs, Aleksandrs Visockis) 4×100 meters relay (43.69 seconds), Kristaps Sunteiks (15.30 seconds) in 110 m hurdles, Rinalds Smilga (14.57 m) in three-step jumping and Linda Ozola (14.18 m) and Māris Urtāns (15.72 m) in hockey.

On Sunday, medals will be divided into 22 more disciplines.

The 99th Latvian Championship, which is also the Latvian U-23 Championship, takes place on August 8 and 9 in Jelgava, where the national champions in the adult and U-23 age groups are determined in a two-day competition with almost 300 participants.

The start of the competition on the second day of the competition will be at 10.30.

The hammer throwing competition will take place on August 9 at the sports base of the Platone branch of Vircava Secondary School, where a new hammer throwing sector has been built. Hammer throwing for women will start at 11 am, for men – at 12 noon.
