Eagles News: Sidney Jones is in the hot seat

Let’s go to Philadelphia Eagles connections …

NFL Power 2020 Rankings: Pre-Season Poll 1-32, Who’s In The Hot Seat? – ESPN
12. Philadelphia Eagles. Who is in the hot seat? CB Sidney Jones. Why his seat is hot: Jones was one of the best cornerback prospects in the 2017 draft class, but tore his Achilles on his professional day and has struggled to shake off the injury bug ever since. Suddenly it’s fourth year, and he has just eight starts and two interceptions to his name. With his rookie contract expiring at the end of the season, it’s now or never to make his mark in Philadelphia.

8 practice notes from today’s Eagles training camp – BGN
EAGLE INJURY UPDATE: Genard Avery left training early Monday and was listed with illness today. Jordan Mailata (upper body) and Vinny Curry (lower body) are listed as daily. This is not good for the action of Mailata; he needs all the reps he can get. Fletcher Cox and Malik Jackson had days off today. Andre Dillard was taking reps on the left tackle, so maybe he’ll come back in full on Wednesday? Sidney Jones missed his sixth consecutive practice even though it was a light day. John Hightower and Anthony Rush returned after missing the last two days due to illness.

Fantasy Eagles football rankings, with buy / sell analysis – PhillyVoice
Carson Wentz (9th QB, 84th overall): In 2019, Wentz had over 4,000 passing yards and 27 touchdowns without wide receivers eclipsing 500 receiving yards. It’s crazy. Still, taking him higher than where he’s currently listed (QB9) is a slight risk as you have to bet on his health and the health of guys like DeSean Jackson. I think it is worth the bet because it has top 3 potential, if everyone stays healthy. Just make sure you get a competent second QB. Verdict: buy.

2020 NFL season: 1 pivotal rookie for each of 32 teams – NFL.com
Jalen Reagor – It feels like we’re about to see a big Carson Wentz year – and if that ends up being the case, Reagor will have played a big part in it. Sources in Philadelphia claim the TCU burner has looked great and Wentz sees it as a potential WR1 over time. His ability to attack across all three levels is perfect for what the Eagles need.

TE Dallas Goedert has big plans for attack in 2020 – PE.com
“We can have mismatches on the pitch no matter what,” Goedert said. “If they play at the base (personal) it will either be a safety and a linebacker on us or if we get both safety (on cover) the running back gets a linebacker (in a game) and he doesn’t There’s nobody deep for DeSean (Jackson, wide receiver), so by being able to have both of us, if they put it in nickel (an extra cornerback), we can run the ball. And then they run out of the racing game. There are so many different things we can do, so many things that we both bring to the table and we can cause a bit of nightmares for the defensive coordinators. This is the idea. Cause of nightmares. Dreams for the Eagles, nightmares for the defense. “I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, without a doubt,” Goedert said.

DVOA 2019 by Routes: Receivers – Football Outsiders
The DYAR road curl trailer was technically a tight end – Philadelphia’s Zach Ertz – but 59% of Ertz’s goals came in the slot last year, and 4% more went their separate ways. Ertz had been quite effective on loops in 2018, with 44 DYAR and 17.8% DVOA. His struggles in 2019 may be a reflection of the Eagles’ devastated receiving body, which allowed opponents to focus on Ertz. […] No flat road gained 50 yards last year; Vernon Davis came closest with his 48-yard touchdown against Philadelphia in Week 1. For DYAR, however, it was a different flat course against Philadelphia that scored the highest: Devin Singletary of Buffalo had a touchdown. of 28 yards in third and 13th which was worth 26 DYAR.

Report: Cowboys Won’t Chase Earl Thomas, But Jerry Jones disputes this characterization – Blogging The Boys
Jerry was just on the radio shortly after the Rapoport report was released and he immediately challenged it, in animated tones. He said nothing about the team actually chasing Thomas, instead, Jerry made vague comments about the Cowboys evaluating their roster and adding that they had yet to meet Thomas. So it looks like there is still life in the Earl Thomas Dallas rumor. Stay tuned.

Shady shines in practice – Bucs Nation
Lots of positives coming out of Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp about new addition LeSean McCoy and his incorporation into the offense. With Ronald Jones still supposed to be number one in running back, expectations for McCoy are low as many are curious about exactly what role he’s going to play. After practice on Sunday, there were quite a few positive things about Shady from the coaching staff. For starters, head coach Bruce Arians was excited about what he saw from the 32-year-old rear.
