Doping – Rusada boss sacked – sport

Yuri Ganus, 56, has been sacked as head of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (Rusada). That was decided by a majority of the Rusada General Assembly, said the President of the National Olympic Committee, Stanislav Posdnyakov, in Moscow. The official reason given was irregularities in the finances. Ganus had denied the allegations. He was elected to head Rusada three years ago amid the scandal over Russian state doping. This was banned for four years by the World Anti-Doping Agency in December. Ganus had always spoken out in favor of reforms in Russian sports policy: “All in all, some things are lazy – and in many places we have to replace sports officials,” he said in the DPA-Interview said. Ganus had also personally called on Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin to act. The lawyer Mikhail Buchanov was appointed Rusada interim chief.
