MELBOURNE will have to do without Captain Max Gawn and Vice-Captain Jack Viney when they meet North Melbourne on Sunday.

The Demons have decided to rest Gawn as he deals with a tear in his shoulder / upper back that has restricted him in recent games while Viney will be absent with a concussion.

Harley Bennell has been dropped for the second time this season, while Jay Lockhart (managed) and Alex Neal Bullen (banned) are also eliminated from the squad.

Tom McDonald and Mitch Hannan are among the five ins, but Simon Goodwin has opted out of including Ruckman Braydon Preuss, which means NAB AFL Rising Star candidate Luke Jackson will shoulder the burden against Todd Goldstein.
