Could the third year be a big one for Sam Darnold? Early reports from training camp indicate this could be the case.

Darnold looked flawless in the first few days of practice. He fired the first touchdown pass from camp to Breshad Perriman and was visibly more comfortable going through his readings standing in the pocket behind a revamped offensive line. His early-camp play also reminded veteran half-back Frank Gore a bit of former Pro Bowl quarterback Andrew Luck.

“As I said to our deputy general manager [Rex Hogan]he reminds me a lot of Andrew Luck, ”Gore said Monday. “I told him he had a nice touch like Luck had to Indy. I just want him to keep working. I can tell he loves the game. Very smart guy. I am happy to be here with him.

Any comparison to Luck, who was one of the best quarterbacks in football before he retired last year, is remarkable. If Darnold can take the next step in 2020 and perform at the level Luck did with Indianapolis, the Jets will be in good shape going forward.
