Gran Canaria tennis player Carla Suárez has resigned from playing the US Open as she is awaiting the results of medical tests and has preferred to opt for prudence, as the athlete herself explained on her social networks.

“I’m sorry to announce that I will not be able to participate in the US Open as I would have liked. I am still awaiting medical results and we have opted for caution. I hope to see you soon! ”, The Canary Islands wrote on his Twitter account.

Her withdrawal was also confirmed on Monday by the US Tennis Association (USTA) more than a week after the athlete herself questioned her participation in the tournament. Her name appears on the last list distributed by the organization of the tennis players who will no longer participate in the Grand Slam, which will be played from August 31.

On August 15, Suárez announced on social media that “for health reasons” he would not participate in the Cincinnati tournament, which this year takes place in New York before the Grand Slam as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, at the same time that he said he would make a decision “in the next few days” about the Open.

His press office then specified that a “medical illness” that he had suffered in recent weeks had forced him to make the decision.

“The Canary Islands, who have gone through outbreaks of general discomfort in their training routines, is subject to the evolution of their clinical picture over the next few days,” said the note.

“During the last weeks I have not been able to train normally due to the internal sensations that physical activity produces in me,” Suárez specified, noting that his preparation plan had been interrupted since the middle of July.

The tennis player had undergone different medical tests to try to identify the origin of her symptoms, without a clear diagnosis.
