For the second year in a row, the Browns entered August in hopes of seeing an LSU draft pick move up into the starting lineup in high school.
This draft, security Grant Delpit, will unfortunately miss his entire rookie season.
Delpit tore his Achilles in Browns practice Monday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday night as MRI results confirmed what Cleveland feared after Delpit was hauled off the field.
Live coverage of the Browns’ practice on NFL Network showed Delpit needed help in the cart before he was taken inside.
Delpit’s second season at LSU saw him head for a first-round selection, but an ankle injury contributed to a declining junior campaign, leading to Delpit slipping in the second round of the draft. NFL 2020. Cleveland thankfully picked him up at No.44 overall, scoring Delpit to replace Damarious Randall at the back of the defense.
The response to a major void in Cleveland high school will now need to be replaced. The Browns remade their security room during the offseason, signing Karl Joseph and veteran Andrew Sendejo with Delpit’s draft. One should expect Sendejo to step in instead of Delpit. Cleveland also has 2019 fourth-round pick Sheldrick Redwine as a possible option at the back.
It’s been a tough week for the Browns injury report, which saw promising second-year linebacker Mack Wilson retire, Nick Chubb suffer a concussion and cornerback Kevin Johnson found himself in hospital with a lacerated liver. Delpit unfortunately joined this group on Monday.
