Barça decides to fire Setién and bets on Koeman

The board of directors of FC Barcelona decided this Monday the dismissal of Quique Setién as coach and bet on Ronald Koeman to replace the coach on the Barça bench. After four hours of meeting and, pending an official statement, Setién has been fired and Koeman, current Netherlands coach, is chosen to take up his position after the historic debacle in the quarterfinals of the Champions League against him Bayern Munich (2-8).

The leaders of Barcelona also debated the possible advance of the elections to the presidency after the serious institutional and sporting crisis that the culé entity is going through.

The president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, who already confirmed last week after the failure against Bayern that Setién would be dismissed, was one of the first to arrive at Camp Nou in the morning, along with the hard core of the board (managers Javier Bordas , Xavier Vilajoana and Jordi Moix), after the board meeting he was still in the club’s facilities.

Marta Planas, David Bellver, Ramon Vidal-Abarca and Jaume Carreter also attended the entity’s offices, while the rest of the executives participated in the meeting via videoconference.
