AFL 2020: St. Kilda handshake upset Dermott Brereton after insulting Ben Long, Hunter Clark

AFL legend Dermott Brereton sparked a handshake between two stars of the Saints who disrespected Essendon during Sunday’s fight at Gabba.

Brereton said Essendon players should have been furious after broadcast cameras captured the moment Saints defenders Ben Long and Hunter Clark held an exaggerated handshake celebration before the second half by a margin of one 35 points was resumed.

While there was nothing offensive in the gesture, Brereton said that Essendon players resented the fact that St. Kilda players were comfortably clowning at halftime after bashing the disappointing bombers in the first half.

After picking up just one marker within the 50-meter arc for the first half, the bombers had a much bigger headache than Long and Clark’s handshakes.

But the moment perfectly summed up how weak Essendon’s attack was in the first half with only two goals before the half-time siren.

Brereton predicted that Essendon players would try to make strong physical contact with the Saints duo in the second half.

“The Saints are taking the Mickey they’re doing at halftime,” he said.

“You are probably lucky to stop or you would be moonwalking.

“This is an insult. If you’re an Essendon player and you see this … moons, you would go up to them and grab their necks. “

Cameron Mooney, Fox Footy Commentator, replied, “I’d be dirty”.

“From the opposition point of view, that’s not a good look. If I saw that I would be able to rope at half time. “

The Bombers’ biggest headache was the shape of St. Kilda striker Max King after scoring the game’s first two goals.

Brereton told King early on that Bomber’s star defender Michael Hurley looked “second-rate”.

The Saints kicked seven of the first eight gates and it was in danger of getting very ugly before the bombers responded with the next three gates.

But it was a false hope for bomber fans when the Saints ran away with a win of 10.8 (68) to 5.3 (33).
