Warriors’ Steph Curry shows love for players in restarting the NBA on Twitter

Programming note: Watch “Race in America: A Candid Conversation” on Friday 31 July in the NBC Sports Bay Area after the conclusion of “Giants Postgame Live”.

Warriors manager Steve Kerr last week posted a powerful photo on Twitter with former Golden State players Devean George and Sleepy Floyd.

The two former Warriors were photographed wearing Warriors uniforms n. 8 and n. 46, signifying the time period – eight minutes and 46 seconds – in which Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, knelt on George Floyd’s neck, causing Floyd’s death.

How was this tribute made?

Sleepy Floyd explained the background during the last episode of “Race in America: A Candid Conversation”, which will air on Friday in the NBC Sports Bay Area after “Giants Postgame Live”.

“I have an excellent relationship with the Warriors,” he said. “I still do a lot of things in the community – different projects they call me for. The PR department contacted me and they wanted to do something to make an impact.

“I thought it was exceptional. It’s very creative. So they sent a shirt and we took several photos (with) different angles and different background colors, and basically took it from there.”

The image is now Kerr’s Twitter profile picture, which may serve as a reminder that the fight for racial equality is far from over.

As Sleepy noted, a lot of work awaits us.

“Don’t forget. They (the Warriors) want to keep it in people’s minds. People are still facing challenges,” he said. “This is something we have to fight to move forward … in our individual ways that impact the community. Having those uncomfortable conversations – which I’ve had with many of my friends.

“I actually stopped some of my friends (after) by looking at some of the things they posted about this whole situation from the beginning.”

Don’t forget to watch the whole conversation on Friday night.
