Timo Werner reacts on Instagram after his first Chelsea training session after a £ 47.5 million transfer

Timo Werner has completed his first Chelsea training session since he completed his £ 47.5 million transfer from RB Leipzig.

The move by the German national team was officially agreed upon before the end of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season last month and his contract at Stamford Bridge entered into force on July 1, 2020.

However, as revealed by Blues coach Frank Lampard earlier this month, Werner’s arrival in the UK was delayed by a few weeks as he was given additional free time to recharge his batteries after an impressive season. .

And on Sunday morning, the 24-year-old landed in London and was present at Stamford Bridge to see his new teammates secure the Champions League for next season with a 2-0 win over the Wolves.

It was a team performance that would have encouraged Werner, according to Lampard.

“He was here today and I hope he would see a team play with a lot of spirit and professionalism to get through a game that was potentially very difficult for us,” said Lampard.

“He would have seen a moment like Mason Mount did to unlock the stall, which is a problem we had this season, controlling a game, not scoring and then suffering.

“We have things we want to improve on.

“But I think he would see that we have talent in the team, a real resilience and a strong quality in the group and therefore he can bring his qualities to that. Hopefully it was a good first vision for him and we can’t wait to have him later season.”

Less than 24 hours after witnessing his first Chelsea live match in person, Werner took part in his first training session at the club’s base in Cobham.

It was a light session that included some work with the ball and one that the attacker enjoyed while uploading an image to his official Instagram account after being tested.

“First workout, first time wearing blue!” he wrote.

The post was “appreciated” by none other than Lampard who most likely can’t wait to name Werner in his initial lineup.

However, Werner and newcomer Hakim Ziyech won’t be able to play until early next season.

Having said that, when the 2020/21 campaign begins, the attacker could wear his favorite jersey n. 11 at Chelsea as that team number will become available now that Pedro’s exit has been confirmed by Lampard.
