Time to end golf cart rallies

To the editor:

Meta Minton’s article was perfect.
The recent political themed golf cart rally in Lake Sumter Landing brought unwanted attention and ridicule to the Villages nationally and internationally.
After four years of hiring as snowbirds, we have chosen to make The Villages our full-time home. We resisted many jokes about “swinging elders and sexually transmitted diseases” because we knew the true nature and sincere friendliness of the people who live here. We enjoyed the golf cart parades on St. Patrick’s Day and the extravagant decorations that adorn these mini modes of transportation on virtually every other holiday.
But I question the use of golf cart “parades” to impose ALL party politics in such a belligerent and offensive way that it has become the norm. Whatever the original intent was, it went out of control. These rallies are no longer a positive force, they are divisive. They promote an attitude detrimental to the reputation of The Villages and its residents.
Perhaps it is time to end this form of rampant radicalism, for the good of our whole community.
