The pelican star, Zion Williamson, is one of three to embellish the cover of the NBA 2K21

Growing up playing the 2K franchise, Zion Williamson dreamed of one day on the cover. After just one season in the NBA, New Orleans’ pelican rookie turned that dream into reality.

Williamson was named one of three NBA 2K21 coverage athletes on Wednesday morning.

“It is one of those emotions that I am still processing,” William J. told The Undefeated Marc J. Spears in a video interview. “It’s a dream come true. In those AAU tournaments, you’re looking at the cover thinking” It will be me. “Because it happens so quickly, it’s a great honor.”

Williamson will be the cover athlete for the next generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X systems. He joins Damian Lillard, who will be present on the current generation systems, as one of the announced cover athletes. The final cover athlete will be announced on Thursday.

During the PS5 revelation event on June 11, Williamson was introduced to showcase the game’s new graphics.

“My first thought on advertising was this super drug,” said Williamson. “It’s crazy it’s me. Then the thoughts after I let the trial be, ‘Dude, it was really me.’ They chose me as a boy to introduce 2K21. It’s just an honor. It’s like a dream becomes reality. “

Williamson said 2K brings him back to his days on the AAU circuit and all the hours he started playing.

“It’s always been a fun game, especially when you’re with your friends in AAU tournaments,” said Williamson. “It’s nothing more than 2K, 2K tournaments and anyone who believes they are the best. Sometimes they meet with other teams in the same hotel and see how far they get your 2K skills.”

Williamson becomes the third player in the New Orleans organization to beautify the cover after Chris Paul did it for 2K8 and Anthony Davis for 2K13.
