The Humane Society golf tournament adapts to the pandemic

When the North Bay Humane Society golf tournament returns this July, it will be a tournament shaped by the coronavirus pandemic: limited players on the green, scheduled tee times and no banquet or awards ceremony. But the company’s goal remains the same: to raise funds to take care of the over 1,000 unwanted and abandoned animals that pass through the shelter every year.

The 11th annual Monaghan and Furry Friends Scramble, sponsored by Pet Valu North Bay and hosted by 106.3 Moose FM, take place on Tuesday 21 July at Callander’s Osprey Links golf course.

Instead of a traditional start time, registrants will be assigned scheduled tee times to meet the province’s COVID-19 regulations. Casey’s Grill Bar will offer a lunch to take home for participants and, instead of traditional live and silent auctions, golfers will be able to bid on exciting items and experiences online.

The registration fee is only $ 125 per player, with all funds remaining locally to help feed, socialize and care for vulnerable cats and dogs in the community.

“It was important for us to maintain the legacy of the Monaghan tournament in a safe and controlled way,” says Liam Cullin, executive director of the Humane Society in a statement.

“So we made changes to make sure we can welcome players and at the same time raise money for a very worthy cause.”

The North Bay Humane Society hopes to raise $ 15,000 from this year’s tournament. Interested parties wishing to register as individuals or teams can do so now at www.nbdhs.ca/golf.
