Lonely on the slopes: running in the Corona days

The ghostly Bundesliga season has ended. Olympics, European Football Championship, Wimbledon, tour – everything canceled or postponed. Suddenly there is a creepy emptiness for a few days. But by 2021 everything could be different again.
Dhe big summer slump in sport had long been a story from days gone by. Just like the Bundesliga Dino HSV. Or the notorious Bayern-Dusel, which is no longer needed today. The gap was always filled well if king football stood without European championships or world championships every two years. With more football in the first place, of course. Formerly with the Confed Cup, more recently with the Nations League, in the future with an inflated FIFA Club World Cup.
In addition, “residual sports” liked to use this time to remind the audience. The “European Championships” as a kind of European mini-Olympia or “The Finals”, a conglomerate of German championships in Berlin, were the latest and most promising approaches. There were also established summer highlights such as tennis at Wimbledon and cycling at the Tour de France.
But by 2020 everything is different, and suddenly there is a hole in the German sports budget. The ghostly Bundesliga season has ended, and apart from a few European Cup participants, hardly anyone is currently haunted by the nation’s soccer fields. Olympics, European Football Championships, Wimbledon, the tour – everything canceled or postponed. Instead of terribly beautiful sports summer, there is suddenly creepy emptiness for at least a few days.
And so suddenly events emerge from the corona fog that the inclined viewer would otherwise have hardly noticed. They still offer nice sport. The Sibiu Tour in Romania, for example, which serves as a test run for the Great Loop in France with its hygiene concept. The athletics gala in Regensburg as well. Of course, these events cannot prevent the impression that the summer hole has been open for a long time. However, it will remain unique. Because as early as 2021, the story of the summer slump could again look like a modern fairy tale.
