Sources – Derrick Henry and Titans seek timely agreement

The Tennessee Titans and star Derrick Henry are currently working to finalize a deal before 4 p.m. ET for franchise players, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

An agreement is in the process of being concluded, according to Schefter.

This marks a change in the team’s plans, as a source said on Tuesday that the parties should not reach a long-term agreement by the deadline.

Henry won the NFL title with 1,540 yards last season and posted consecutive seasons of more than 1,000 yards.

Of all the NFL running backs with at least 200 races last season, Henry’s 5.1 yards per race was the highest.

Henry has proven to be a valuable part of the Titans’ offensive attack, especially in the playoffs.

“I said it before, I say it again, Derrick [Henry] is an important part of what we do. Derrick is an important part of our football team, “said Titans general manager Jon Robinson about Henry at the NFL game in March.” Derrick had a great year for us. He ran the league in a rush and built up from the second half of his 2018 season. He cares about his teammates and works hard and is great in the community. “

Upon entering the AFC Championship game, he had accounted for 69% of the team’s total offense. During the Titans’ playoff run, Henry also became the first player to rush for 180 or more yards in three consecutive games. The fourth-year ball carrier took on more of a leadership role with the Titans last season, earning praise from coach Mike Vrabel.

“His leadership ability has improved. He has become a leader,” said Vrabel after the Titans’ 20-13 playoff victory over the New England Patriots. “I think he helped lead this football team and got my message and our staff’s message through the locker room. His durability, effort and tenacity made him a leader. He was excited and talked to the guys in the field and in the locker room and they listened. “

Since being selected in the second round of the 2016 draft outside of Alabama, Henry has rushed for 3,833 yards on 804 races (4.8 YPC) and scored 38 touchdowns. He also caught 57 passes for 578 yards and three touchdowns. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2016.
