Shashank Manohar steps down as ICC chair after two stages – cricket

Shashank Manohar resigned as chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday after two terms. The deputy chairman Imran Khwaja will assume the responsibility of the chairman until a successor is elected.

The procedure for the election of the chairperson is expected to be approved by the ICC board next week.

Manu Sawhney, Chief Executive of ICC, said: “On behalf of the ICC Board and staff, as well as the entire cricket family, I would like to thank Shashank for his leadership and everything he has done as ICC Chairman for the sport. We wish him and his family all the best for the future. “

ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja added: “Everyone on the ICC Board thanks Shashank wholeheartedly for the commitment they have shown in our sport. There is no doubt that Cricket Shashank is indebted to everything he has done for the sport. He left cricket and the ICC in a better place than he found. “

Who can replace Manohar as the next ICC chair?

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani is reportedly considering applying for the ICC chairmanship. Mani also heads the ICC Finance and Commerce Committee, which has no BCCI representation. BCCI accuses Shashank Manohar of wiping out India’s presence from the crucial ICC finance committee with Mani. Manohar, after becoming ICC chairman, also sunk the proposed “Big Three” formula, which would have given BCCI a significantly higher share of sales from the ICC.

The Chair of the Cricket Board of England and Wales (ECB), Colin Graves, is the leader who replaced Manohar in July. That is when he gets BCCI support. The Indian board does not announce its stance, but the name of BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has also made the rounds for the ICC chairman.

If it is decided that the T20 World Cup has to be postponed, an alternative window has to be found. Cricket Australia prefers to postpone it until October 2021, but next year India’s turn to host a T20 World Cup and BCCI won’t want to mess with it.
