Rovers is aiming to win a first Premier Division crown since 2011 and end Dundalk’s dominance which has seen Lilywhites crowned champions in five of the past six seasons.

Stephen Bradley’s team made the perfect start to the season, winning all games, including dramatic victories over Bohemians and Dundalk.

The season is expected to resume later this month with two rounds of scheduled matches and full relegation and promotion from the highest level as expected.

SunSport understands that a list of games – which will see the games distributed throughout the week and streamed online – will be produced in the next week, possibly by Friday.

And if the games are behind closed doors or with a limited number of fans they will be discussed with the government.

However, the FAI board is ready to review plans after receiving a letter from a number of clubs outlining their unhappiness.

A letter claiming to be on behalf of most top clubs outlines a number of complaints.

They say the decision to stick to the promotion and relegation format established at the beginning of the season is irresponsible when nine out of 10 Premier Division outfits expressed a preference for an alternative.

They expressed their unhappiness with the FAI leadership and asked for an investigation into what they believe is an imperfect trial.
