In the next two seasons, the 34-year-old speed skater intends to focus on the 1,500-meter track, on which she is the reigning Olympic winner, world and European champion. The 3000-meter races, in which she fought battles with the Czech queen of long distances, Sáblíková, will be set aside.

“I think I’ve accelerated a bit, which should be an advantage for me at 15,” said Wüstová, who also has 21 world champion titles in her collection.

The owner of eleven Olympic medals, including five gold medals, is the most successful winter Olympian among active athletes. Only three Norwegian legends won more medals at the Winter Olympics – cross-country skiers Marit Björgen (15) and Björn Dählie (12) and biathlete Ole Einar Björndalen (13).

As the only athlete, Wüstová won individual gold at four winter games. Six competitors did well at the Summer Olympics. The Dutch speed skater may be the first to win gold in five games.
