The Cincinnati Bengals expect veteran receiver AJ Green to play the 2020 season on the franchise label rather than signing a long-term extension, ESPN Jeremy Fowler reported on Saturday.

“They don’t seem too optimistic in Cincinnati that their best receiver will be blocked in the long run,” said Fowler on SportsCenter. “They expect him to play tag this year, a kind of feeling period for both parties.

“… They always consider him one of the best broad receptors when he is in good health. They know he is ready to go right now and finally healed. Maybe a one-year label is better for both parties. ”

Green, who turns 32 on July 31, missed the entire 2019 season after ankle surgery.

The Pro Bowl’s seven-time selection has played in 111 games (all starts) since the Bengals made him the number four pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. He caught 602 passes for 8,907 yards and 63 touchdowns.

Green signed a $ 60 million four-year extension with the Bengals in 2015. He would earn about $ 18 million on the franchise label in 2020.
