Two years ago he recovered the individual Basque pentathlon with a resounding success and this year not even the pandemic has prevented tomorrow from being disputed the first edition of the Basque pentathlon in pairs. The Tolosa bullring will host this championship from 11.00 am, with seven couples in competition and their five corresponding events: stone lifting, giza-proba, aizkora, txingas and foot race.
The seven couples who will fight for the first txapela of champions are: Jokin Eizmendi-Jagoba Otaegi, Xabier Zaldua-Jon Gisasola ‘Zelai V’, Xabier Orbegozo ‘Arria V’-Andoni Iruretagoiena’ Izeta VI ‘, Ousmane Drame-Beñat Amade, Julen Kañamares-Xabier Urrutia, Kepa Peñagarikano-Joxean Olaskoaga ‘Aizperro’ and Aratz Mugertza-Iñaki Errazkin.

Kepa Peñagarikano and Joxean Olaskoaga ‘Aizperro’ do not appear on the poster announcing the championship, but after the bet that faced them twelve days ago they will compete this time together. Jokin Eizmendi, in turn, replaces Luis Txapartegi, injured at the last minute.
Many fans wonder how the competition is going to take place. The rules leave no room for doubt. With the 100-kilo ball, the couple will share the workat least 60-40%. Given that 40 calls are waiting for them, that means that one of the members would give 24 at most and the other 16 at least.
With no time for rest, they will prepare to drag the 400-kilo stone into the giza-proba. Each athlete must travel two places to add the four regulations. In the third test they will take the aizkora and cut four kanaerdikos. The two pentathletes will strike a minimum of 15 strokes on each side of the trunk. With the 50 kilos txingas the effort will be eight seats and each will give four. It seems that the logical thing is that each two places are released.
To finish the pentathlon, the six couples will run four kilometers, or what is the same, They will go around the 100 meter ring 40 times. As with the stone, the work will be distributed as a maximum in a percentage of 60-40%, so one of the members of the couple must travel a minimum of 16 laps.
The entrance, at 20 euros
The entrance costs 20 euros and the necessary security measures will be taken so that everything happens according to the rules. The mask is mandatory for spectators.
Talking about favorites is complicated, as an official pentathlon tag team championship has never been played before. If the reference is the individual, Xabier Zaldua and Zelai form a very strong couple. Nor should we lose track of Arria V and Izeta VI, the conqueror of one of the editions of the Euskal Telebista reallity show.
There will be three batches and they are already drawns. In the first the turn will be for Jokin Eizmendi-Jagoba Otaegi, Julen Kañamares-Xabier Urrutia and Kepa Peñagarikano-Joxean Olaskoaga. Beñat Amade-Osman Drame and Xabier Zaldua-Jon Gisasola will take part in the second. Xabier Orbegozo-Andoni Iruretagoiena ‘Izeta VI’ and Iñaki Errazkin-Aratz Mugertza will close the race.
