Pilot Ismael Bonilla dies in private training in Jerez

The Spanish pilot Ismael Bonilla passed away this Sunday at the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit after suffering a fall in a private training session organized by the Madrid company CM3.

The Jerez circuit reported on this social accident on this social media accident that occurred at noon this morning, “deeply regretted the death” of the 41-year-old pilot from Madrid, and conveyed his “sincere condolences to his family, friends and the organizer of these sessions ” of training.

In the absence of knowing the results of the official investigation of the causes of the event, eyewitnesses told Efe that the accident would have occurred when the brakes of the motorcycle failed, which crashed at the Expo 92 curve of the Jerez route, located after the finish line.

Ismael Bonilla ran several races in the defunct 250 cc World Championship in the 1990s and is currently working as a monitor in driving and piloting courses.

The pilot had been the Spanish speed champion and also ran the European Championship.

This is the fourth fatal accident that has occurred in the Jerez Circuit since it opened in 1985, of which the first occurred in 1990, when the Cordovan pilot Javier Moreno lost his life in a test of the Andalusian Motorcycle Championship.

In 1993, during training for the Spanish Grand Prix, the Japanese Noboyuki Wakai died in an accident in this test scoring for the World Championship.

A little over a year ago, in March 2019, the young 14-year-old from Rota, Marcos Garrido, also died in an initiation category race.
