NBA releases scrimmage program to restart Orlando

Believe it or not, we are less than three weeks away from seeing NBA teams return to hardwood in at least somewhat competitive capacity. Today, on Independence Day, the championship offered us freedom from an NBA basketball-free existence in the form of the scrimmage program to restart the regular season in Orlando. Orlando Bubble’s first scrimmages take place on July 22, while the Sixers’ first opportunity on the field comes two days later, Friday July 24.

Here is the complete program of the league:

If you want to save time browsing the entire list, the three Sixer screens are as follows:

  • Friday, July 24 against Memphis Grizzlies – 15:30 ET
  • Sunday July 26 against Oklahoma City Thunder – 12:00 pm ET
  • Tuesday July 28 against Dallas Mavericks – 20:30 ET

If you’re wondering, the status of those scripts being aired is yet to be determined.

Assuming we have the means to view those three Sixers scripts, I think it’s a bloody list of amusements. Now, I know they’re just scrimmages before an eight-game regular season restart that doesn’t mean much depending on how you feel about the Sixers finishing fourth or fifth in the Orient heading for the August playoffs … but. ..if you like the exciting young guards taking the floor, you couldn’t ask for much better than Ja Morant, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic in succession. Also, with the Grizzlies involved in the battle for the eighth seed and Thunder and Mavericks both part of the group I’m calling “let’s not play with the Clippers in Round One”, I think these teams are as incentivized as possible to train quickly which could make basketball better.

Regardless, the Sixers could play the Washington Generals on July 24th, and I’m sure we would have all eyes glued to the television and tweeting the event live. Come on, NBA, just launch a few cameras. We will watch!

Enjoy the 4th of July celebrations tonight (safely and during social distancing). The real fireworks are about to break out in Disney World in a few weeks.
