Nairo Quintana was unhurt from an accident he suffered while training on a highway in the department of Boyac, where he was born, and fell for the reckless maneuver of a driver. This was reported by the Mayor of Motavita, the municipality where the accident occurred, who noted in her Twitter account that the Arkea-Samsic broker decided to return to her home to be treated by her personal doctor.

The mayor explained that the incident occurred in a sector known as the (home) Salvial sidewalk, on the road that connects Tunja, the departmental capital of Boyac, with Motavita, where she collided with a vehicle. In photos published by the local administration, Quintana is seen sitting in a plastic chair telling the police and Mayor Mery Mozo what happened.

Quintana – winner of the 2014 Giro d’Italia and the Tour of Spain in 2016 – was announced alongside the French Warren Barguil as leader of the Arka-Samsic team for the Tour de France that begins on August 29 in Nice.

The Colombian is expected to return to competition in the Tour de L’Ain between 7 and 9 August, before facing the Dauphin on the way to the Tour de France, in which he tried to reach the podium, a result that he has already achieved, since he has twice been second (2013 and 2015) and a third (2016).
