UCL draw: Man City could face Juve in the quarterfinals, Barca against Bayern on the cards

Nyon, 10 July (IANS) The historic draw for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and semi-finals took place on Friday. It was historic in the sense because it took place even before all games of Round of 16 ended.

The Champions League had to be stopped in March due to the coronavirus pandemic with few first leg games left to play.

The governing body had previously announced the dates of the return matches to be played behind closed doors in Turin, Manchester, Monaco and Barcelona on 7 and 8 August respectively.

The quarterfinal draw saw the Real Madrid winner and Manchester City pitted against the winner between Lyon and Juventus. The city has the advantage over Real, after beating them 2-1 in the first leg to Santiago Bernabeu. Juventus cut Lyon 1-0 in France.

RB Leipzig will block their horns against Atletico Madrid, who had eliminated defending champions Liverpool in the round of 16, recording a 3-2 win in total. Leipzig, meanwhile, had swept Tottenham 4-0 away on two legs.

The winner between the Napoli and Barcelona draw will face the winner of the clash between Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Barca had previously won 1-0 in Naples while Bayern had crushed Chelsea in London in the first leg.

The fourth and final round is quite simple as Atalanta will face Paris Saint Germain. The Italian team swept Valencia 8-4 on two legs while PSG drew Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in an exciting Last-16 tie.
