Kolář, coach Trpišovský, was chosen as the best player of the season

The best player of the season of the first league was the goalkeeper Ondřej Kolář, who helped Prague’s Slavia to defend the title for the first time. In the vote of coaches, team captains and selected journalists, he clearly won in front of the defending champion Tomáš Souček, who headed from Eden to West Ham, England, in the winter. Another Slavist midfielder, Nicolae Stanciu, finished third. The Red and Whites also won the poll for the best coach of the season, last year’s victory was repeated by Jindřich Trpišovský.

The results of the survey were published today by the League Football Association, which manages professional competitions in the Czech Republic. Due to persistent restrictions against the spread of a new type of coronavirus, there was no traditional gala evening and the winners were announced on O2 TV’s Tiki-Taka program.

Kolář has had a life season that was interrupted by a coronavirus pandemic for about two and a half months in March. The 25-year-old goalkeeper caught 31 matches in this league year, collected only 10 goals and scored 23 zeros. Kolář thus broke the previous record of the independent league, which was held by Petr Čech and Zdeněk Jánoš with 17 clean accounts. At the same time, he reached the jubilee 50th zero the fastest in history, for which 101 matches were enough.

“It’s a big surprise for me. Until recently, I worked with an injury, I didn’t play football for two years and I didn’t know what would happen to me. I had black thoughts. This is such an award for me and I really appreciate it.” Kolář told reporters.

Slavists took the first four places in the poll. Kolář won with a comfortable lead of 49 points over Souček. The defender of last year’s championship finished second, although in the Czech league he played only the autumn part of the season, in which Slavia created a decisive lead of 16 points over the second Pilsen at the top of the table.

Five points behind Souček was another player of the Vršovice team Rumun Stanciu, who also dominated the category of foreigners. The Slavic dominance was confirmed by the fourth place by another midfielder Petr Ševčík, the first player from a team other than the team in Eden was the fifth Guélor Kanga from Sparta.

Not one of the five players with the highest number of points earned for goals and assists was among the top four. Midfielder Pavel Bucha with 10 goals and eight passes became at least the discovery of the season. The 22-year-old midfielder spent the autumn in Mladá Boleslav and the spring in Pilsen.

Unlike Souček, the red-and-white coach Trpišovský achieved a clear defense. The coaches reigned with a clear lead of 118 points over the second Pavel Hoftych from Liberec, the third was finished by the Slovak coach Adrian Guľa, who after the winter arrival in Pilsen significantly raised West Bohemia.

“Of course I’m very happy for the trophy, but I rather take it as the main trophy of Slavia, all the collaborators. I don’t take it as the coach of the year award, but the implementation team award,” said Trpišovský. “I think all the coaches are doing a great job. It is impossible to measure which coach is the best in the season. It’s more to the credit of the team and the club. Sometimes it’s awkward for me to come for the prize, because I know how much is behind it people, “ added.

Forty-four-year-old Trpišovský led Slavia to the second defense of the title in independent history. The Red and Whites collected a record low 12 goals in 35 rounds and with 69 goals they also had the best attack of the highest competition. Slavia also played a group of the Champions League in the autumn.

Captain Bohemians 1905 Josef Jindřišek was elected a personality of the season. The 39-year-old midfielder overcame the goal of 350 league starts and with “Klokany” he played a group for Europe in the superstructure. According to the poll in the polls for the player of the match, the fans chose only seventeen-year-old Adam Hložek from Sparta as the best footballer of the year.

Slavists also reigned in the accompanying polls, which were announced on Wednesday. Kolář triumphed among the goalkeepers, Stanciu was chosen as the best midfielder and Petar Musa was the striker. The dominance of the red and whites was disrupted only by the Pilsen defender Jakub Brabec.
