Jürgen Klopp: “Winning the Premier League trophy will be like Christmas.”

Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp says that it will be “like Christmas” to finally get the Premier League trophy.

The Reds will receive the long-awaited cutlery after their league game against Chelsea in Anfield on Wednesday.

“It was a very long time until then. We have been champions for a month now,” said Klopp.

“It’s a bit like Christmas – you know you’re going to get a special present, but you’re still excited.”

The German coach, who has led the club to the first championship title for 30 years, added: “It will be something special. I am very happy that the boys have this moment.

“They deserve it more than anyone else because there are so many setbacks that they have dealt with.”

However, Klopp is keen to see his squad focus on aligning Chelsea in their penultimate game of the interrupted season, rather than the celebrations afterwards.

“We have to put on the turn signals,” said the 53-year-old. “It’s not the easiest game I’ve ever prepared with a team because there are two things tomorrow [Wednesday] Night.

“Usually I don’t have to think about anything else but the football game and I can concentrate.

“But in the end, we can only win if we are 100%, so we have to choose something. It’s not like we’re waiting for the party to start there.”

Klopp admits it will be “one of the greatest days” of his life to watch injured captain Jordan Henderson lift the trophy the club has been waiting for – and to get his hands on it.

Police warn fans not to gather outside of Anfield

Merseyside chief of police, Andy Cooke, warned fans not to gather outside the site in large numbers on Wednesday night due to corona virus regulations.

A parade is expected to take place later this year, but only if the government permits large public gatherings again.

“I am a Liverpool fan, but my first responsibility is in the city and wider Merseyside area,” he said.

“We have a full police operation on site tomorrow and will take action. Now is not the time to celebrate.”
