Brandon Williams named Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard as his two mentors during his breakthrough in the Manchester United first team.
The 19-year-old defender made his United debut only last September, but has since established himself as a key team member under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Williams’ rise was so impressive that United shelved plans to sign a new left back at the end of last year with him and Luke Shaw demonstrating their quality in the position.
The teenager hopes to end his debut season with a place in the Champions League next year and has thanked the British of England Rashford and Lingard for their guidance.
“They (Rashford and Lingard) have already passed everything,” Williams said Pros: direct football. They went through the youth phase, through the seasons at the club. Those two always made sure I was fine. When I joined the team for the first time, they made sure I was fine. Eat the right things, you know, good stuff. “
In addition to two of the club’s older idols, Williams admits he is inspired by the progress of his close friend Mason Greenwood.
The teen striker enjoyed an extraordinary season of success during which he established himself as the best striker in the Premier League, and Williams thinks that playing with his childhood friends makes him even more special.
He added: “He is mad. He always works, I don’t really know what foot he is, it’s impossible to say. Have you seen the two goals he scored (against Bournemouth)? The way he hits him is like Robin van Persie.
“In the youth cup he went down and carried a hat-trick. It makes it much more special to play with the likes of Mason with whom I grew up through the youth system.
“In the locker room when you’re 10 or 11 you’re kidding us and when we go out to Old Trafford it makes it a lot easier. You’re just proud that they made the same trip as me.”
