The fat guy is in the building.
Mekhi Becton signs his rookie contract with the New York Jets, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday night, all 6-foot-7 and over 360 pounds from the offensive tackle.
The former Louisville star and 11th overall pick signs his fully guaranteed $ 18.45 million contract and is already in town, Rapoport added.
Seeking to keep young franchise quarterback Sam Darnold standing for what the franchise hopes will be a successful future, the Jets have revamped their offensive line this offseason and Becton expects to slip early in the left tackle.
A monster presence, Becton also moves very well for his size and his long arms and swift feet are a huge bonus. Along with maintaining Darnold’s health, he should also be an over-run blocker.
