Hossegor leaves the world elite circuit, the 2020 season canceled – Fil Info

The World Surf League (WSL), which manages the pro world surf circuit (CT), announced Friday that the 2020 season has been canceled, revealing the dates and the new format for 2021, in which Hossegor, stage for 33 years, n is more on the elite program. The 2020 season, which was supposed to start on March 26 on the Gold Coast (Australia) and end in December on the Hawaii Pipeline, was therefore canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The circuit, rich in 11 stages, should have passed through Hossegor (Landes) during the first half of October, a test on the calendar since 1987. But the new season (2021), which comes in a new format from November 2020 to September 2021, will be without the appointment on the Basque coast. “If the health crisis has accelerated the implementation of this reform initially envisaged in 2022, we regret a late concertation on this decision which excludes metropolitan France from the world championship”, deplored the Landes department in a press release. Hossegor, however, joined the WSL Challengers Series circuit (2nd division) and France remained integrated into the CT with a flagship event, that in Tahiti, which is played on the legendary waves of Teahupoo, chosen to host the surfing events of the Olympic Games in 2024. And for the new season, the girls, deprived of Teahupoo since 2006, will be able to surf there again as part of the TC.
