Four NFL players who can match or even beat Patrick Mahomes’ exceptional contract

It was a whirlwind of a few days for fans of Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs. The NFL Super Bowl LIV MVP signed a massive 10-year contract extension on Monday with its current franchise.

The mega-deal will see Mahomes bring home at least $ 450 million over the next 10 years. He can earn up to $ 50 million and more in performance bonuses that will be triggered later.

If the numbers reported are correct, then “Pat Mahomes’ deal” will be the biggest NFL contract of all time. That being said, let’s take a look at four potential players who may win a similar contract in the NFL in the near future.

Four NFL players who can match or improve Patrick Mahomes’ mega-chord

Last year Joe Burrow had a great season with LSU and led them to the title of national champion. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2019. Burrow was the first draft pick in the 2020 NFL and will play for the Cincinnati Bengals this season.

Burrow is tipped for great things based on his LSU record. He’s strong in the pocket and has been impressive during the 2019 NCAA season.

If he has a great rookie season with the Bengals and plays his cards well, he may require a larger contract after the end of his current contract.

Derrick Deshaun Watson is the 24-year-old starting QB for the Houston Texans. The Georgia-born kid showed promising signs after signing in Houston in 2017.

Watson threw for more than 3,800 yards last season and registered 26 touchdowns. He scored the same number of touchdowns last year. In addition to this formidable tally, Watson did not fail to impress in the division game against the Chiefs before the Texans took a 24-0 lead in the second quarter.

The Houston-based NFL franchise exercised the fifth-year extension option on the current Watson agreement. However, he is online for a big salary soon enough if he continues to perform regularly.

Dak Prescott’s situation is truly unique. However, Patrick Mahomes’ agreement could be used by Dak and his agent to induce the otherwise strict negotiator, Jerry Jones, to open his wallet for the 26-year-old prodigy.

Prescott had an excellent rookie season with the Cowboys in 2016. However, he faced a series of ups and downs in his tenure in the NFL over the next three seasons.

He has maintained a pass percentage of 65.8% since 2016. He was great last year for the Cowboys. Dak threw for 4,902 yards and had 30 touchdowns in 2019, his best NFL tally so far.

Can he get Jones to give him the contract he wants?

Of all the names on this list, Lamar Jackson is closest to entering into a long-term mega deal similar to that of Mahomes. The 2019 NFL MVP Award winner is only 23 years old. He pitched for over 3000 yards and rushed for another 1000+ others to win the NFL MVP award by unanimous vote last year.

There is no limit to Jackson’s potential in the NFL. The Mahomes – Jackson rivalry is already compared to that of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

If he leads the Ravens to a Super Bowl trophy anytime soon, he can expect a payday similar to that of Mahomes in the near future.
