NFL recently announced it will play the song Lift Ev’ry’s voice and sing at the start of games this season, The star banner will follow.
The song dates back to 1905 and is based on a poem from 1900 written by James Weldon Johnson. Johnson was one of the first leaders of the National Association for the Advancement of People of Color (NAACP).
Owens responded to the NFL announcement of his intention to start playing the song, Lift Ev’ry’s voice and sing, a song that many blacks have chosen to call “the black national anthem”.
Recently, some people called the song “the black national anthem,” which is why it was selected by the NFL.
Owens also criticized former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick for his decision to kneel during the national anthem, calling the former San Fransico 49ers player “Marxist”.
