Do we see NK cycling in Switzerland in the future? “Giving climbers a chance” | Cycling

It may seem like a crazy idea, but the Dutch association is apparently already seriously investigating the possibility of organizing a national championship in Switzerland. It could already happen in 2022 or 2023 voglens Veneberg. The reason is clear: the Netherlands is too flat and KNWU also wants to give climbers a chance.

“I first contacted Austria, but it was a bit difficult,” he tells NOS. “Then we spoke with the Swiss federation, the Swiss regions and the organization of the Tour de Suisse. They saw opportunities.”

Teams like Jumbo-Visma with climbers in the team will be enthusiastic. “But you have people anyway who are not so happy with it. For the teams we are also looking to keep the costs as low as possible. Switzerland is an expensive country.”

And the youth? “We do realize that we appeal to parents and clubs to go there and that as a result not everyone can participate in a Dutch championship. That is a discussion.”
