Patron Dietmar Hopp resists the accusation that his TSG Hoffenheim is a commercial club. With other Bundesliga clubs it would be very different. The 80-year-old explicitly names two competitors.
MÄzen Dietmar Hopp has resisted the term “commercial association”, as the symbol of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is considered by many ultra groups.
“We at TSG are a club that cannot be called a commercial association. Let’s take a look at Borussia Dortmund, which is now pure commerce, ”said the 80-year-old in an Interview Sport1:“ Or let’s look at Berlin, there are many millions in circulation. I’m happy for the development at Hertha, but I can’t understand that I’m also being attacked by its fans. ”
Before the Corona crisis, Hopp had been hostile to the ultra fans of Munich with banners and a crosshair banner in TSG’s home game against FC Bayern at the end of February. There were further actions against him afterwards in several Bundesliga stadiums.
The situation will not calm down, says Hopp
“There are always only a few people who insult me, which is not that important by comparison,” said Hopp: “It would be more important that normality in football finally returns.”
He does not believe that the current lack of spectators in the stadiums has calmed the situation around him. “I don’t think that enough grass has grown over the events with the fan hatred, that didn’t happen in twelve years and unfortunately won’t be in the next few years either.”
