Bakery Jatta: Investigators search apartment of HSV professional

Investigators raided the home of HSV soccer professional Bakery Jatta in Hamburg on Thursday morning. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office stern. Jatta is accused of violating the residence law. The investigators suspect that the 22-year-old had given false information about himself when he entered the country. Smartphone and tablet had been confiscated and now had to be evaluated.

At first the “Bild” newspaper reported about it. It was she who announced almost a year ago that there were doubts about Jatta’s identity. The guess at the time was that he was actually called Bakery Daffeh and was two years older than stated. A Hamburg authority examined the process and said that there were no indications of it. The HSV was always behind its player. Jatta himself complained of a “witch hunt” on social media.

Bakery Jatta may face up to three years in prison

Investigations into the case have continued in the background for a year, the spokeswoman said. Investigators had evidence that Jatta had dealt with people around the Bakery Daffeh, which had disappeared years ago. These contacts are “difficult to explain” if Jatta is who he claims to be, the spokeswoman said.

According to the law, people who provide false information when entering the country can be imprisoned for up to three years or fined. However, Jatta was an adolescent at the time of the crime, which is why the juvenile justice law might apply to him, said the spokeswoman. She couldn’t say whether he was an adolescent when he really was Daffeh, who was two years older. It is also unclear what effects a possible conviction could have on the Gambier’s residence status. Jatta came to Germany as a minor, unaccompanied refugee.

At HSV, he convinced with trial training and finally got a professional contract that currently runs until 2024. In the second division he just missed promotion with the club. He has played in 31 of the 34 games this season, often over 90 minutes. He scored four goals and two assists.
