Arsenal Try to Approach John Stones

Jakarta

Arsenal’s defense was sharply highlighted following a string of errors that led to missing points. Mikel Arteta was advised to try to recruit John Stones.

Fatal mistakes adorn Arsenal’s appearance again when defeated by Tottenham Hotspur in the derby Sunday (07/12/2020) night WIB yesterday. Win first, The Gunners lost 1-2.

Alexandre Lacazette put Tottenham ahead in the 16th minute, but three minutes later Sead Kolasinac’s sloppy pass towards David Luiz maximized Son Heung-min to equalize the score. Tottenham then won thanks to Toby Alderweireld’s goal in the 81st minute.

Mistakes are closely attached to the Arsenal defense this season. When they qualify for the semifinals to get rid of Sheffield United, for example, carelessness anticipates a throw-in which results in an equalizing goal from the opponent at the end of the match.

Previously, blunders also colored a 0-3 defeat of Manchester City in the English League, with David Luiz highlighted. In September 2019, Sokratis Papastathopoulos also made a blunder when his cross was cut off by an opposing player, so Arsenal were balanced 2-2 with Southampton.

Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp assesses that this chronic problem can only be solved by recruiting new, better central defenders. One option is Manchester City’s John Stones.

Stones has also been highlighted several times for making mistakes, but is considered relatively more promising than current Arsenal defenders. Moreover, the Stones are only 26 years old, which means that they are still approaching the golden age.

Kans recruit Stones is considered quite open considering he rarely played this season City. Stones has appeared 14 times in the Premier League this season and has only started once since January.

“What is the next step for John Stones? One of Virgil van Dijk’s greatest assets is his decision making. He knows when to play the ball and when to throw it. With Stones, that aspect has actually declined so far,” Redknapp said in a column in Daily Mail, as quoted Metro.

“He is fast, strong, and brave in an air duel, but he made prominent mistakes. Spotlights have been on him since he was recruited from Everton for 47.5 million, so his mistakes always draw attention.”

“But Stones is still 26 years old, the same age as Van Dijk when he joined Liverpool. He is still young enough to be polished, but has only been a starter by Pep Guardiola in the league since January. Arsenal need a central defender and Mikel Arteta knows the Stones from those days time in City. It can be suitable, really, “he added.
