A Tanzanian football team fired a Belgian coach for racism

The club from the highest Tanzanian competition Young Africans fired the Belgian coach Luc Eymael for racism after seven months. The 60-year-old coach globetrotter, who has worked in ten African countries in the last decade, likened local fans to monkeys and dogs.

“There are complete idiots in this country. They can only yell. They are like monkeys or dogs barking. They can only do this, nothing else,” Eymael said at a post-match press conference last week. The leadership of the Daresalam team waited until the end of the season with its release.

Former Belgian youth representative Eymael denied that his words in response to shouts from the audience during the match were directed against Young Africans fans. He added that he apologized for them. The case will be investigated by the Tanzanian Union.
