West Tigers beat Canterbury Bulldogs in round seven of NRL after Tommy Talau’s ‘miracle’

The West Tigers won three straight wins under Michael Maguire after trampling 34-6 against Canterbury at Bankwest Stadium.

With the best performance of the season, wingers David Nofoaluma and Tommy Talau shone with two attempts each.

The win places the Tigers in sixth place, justifying Michael Maguire’s decision to destroy Benji Marshall and Chris Lawrence in the past few weeks.

The win also marked Maguire’s 100th NRL win as a coach, while his opponent Dean Pay will come under pressure again because of his last major defeat.

The highlight came in the 44th minute when Talau made his first attempt and flew over the sideline.

Greg Alexander said, “This is a miracle” with a memorable way to start your first NRL attempt.

The Bulldogs remain rooted with just one win at the bottom of the leaderboard, and the Pay men have hardly been in competition since they lost Will Hopoate in the fourth minute from an ankle injury.

Pay said “it wasn’t good, it wasn’t good at all” after starting the first 20 minutes.

“This is the challenge for us. We can get up a week and not where we need to be the next week. This is our challenge,” he said.

“I’ll keep showing up and going on. At the end of the day there is light at the end of the tunnel, we have to buy three or four quality players and improve what we do. Keep bringing these young guys along, but for these young people it’s another learning curve. “

With the English propeller Luke Thompson and John Bateman and even Nick Cotric connected to the team, he said: “Negotiations still exist.”

While they scored Reimis Smith’s opening points in the 18th minute, the Tigers responded almost immediately with Harry Grant.

The Tigers were rarely threatened afterwards and took the lead when Talau made the most of a dropped Luke Brooks bomb to release his first career attempt.

The four-pointer came 22 years after his father and former bulldogs center, Willie, made the first attempt of his career against Western Suburbs.

Tigers Center Joey Leilua took two attempts during the break when he crashed from close range before Talau’s climax.

The Bulldogs were cannon fodder for the rest of the game, and Nofoaluma managed to get his opponent out of the way in seven minutes with two attempts.

The first came when he intercepted a Kieran Foran pass to drive 30 meters before finishing a line break from Luke Brooks in the 61st minute.

Tiger’s full-back Adam Doueihi, who was rejected twice in the second half, put the finishing touches to the seventh attempt in the 74th minute.
