Latvian beach volleyball duos Mārtiņš Pļaviņš / Edgars Točs and Varvara Brailko / Anete Namiķe triumphed in Tallinn in the second stage of the Estonian Cup on Sunday.
Pļaviņš / Točs beat Estonia’s first number Kusti Nelvaku / Marta Tisārs in the final with the result 2-1 (21:11, 18:21, 18:16).
Before that, in the semi-finals, the Latvians with the result 2-1 (21:19, 16:21, 16:14) prevailed over the Finns Jurki Nurminen / Santeri Sirēna.
Brothers Aleksandrs and Mihails Samoilovi, who do not play together every day, as well as Arnis Reliņš / Ardis Daniels Bedrītis, who were stopped by Pļaviņš and Toča, also stopped from the Latvian pair in the quarterfinals. Aleksandrs Solovejs / Ralfs Namiķis and Rihards Finsters / Rūdolfs Stankevičs did not qualify for the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Brailko / Namiķe defeated the European champion Anastasia Kravčenok in the final with 2-0 (21:18, 21:13), who played together with the Lithuanian Vīteni Vitkauskaitė.
In the fight for the third place Marta Ozolina / Luīze Skrastiņa defeated Estonian Renata Pika / Jūdita Kuri-Pohomova 2-1 (19:21, 21:17, 15: 9).
In the semi-finals Brailko / Namiķe won the second Latvian duo in two sets, but Kravčenoka defeated the Estonian women with a partner. Kristīne Briede / Krista Paegle remained outside the elimination tournament.
Two weeks ago, a tournament took place in Rakvere, where Arnis Reliņš and Ardis Daniels Bedrītis won the second place.
In Latvia, the beach volleyball season will start next weekend.
