Tottenham’s headlines in the evening when Jose Mourinho eyed Lucas Vazquez, Timothy Castagne update

Here are the headlines for Tottenham Hotspur evening for Sunday June 28th.

The loaned Spurs defender impressed in the championship

United States international defender Cameron Carter-Vickers makes waves in the championship with the fight against Luton Town.

The 22-year-old received praise from the newly installed Hatters boss Nathan Jones.

“Cam’s is a good athlete, he’s a good defender, and I took him to Stoke after Ryan Shawcross’ injury,” he said.

Jones worked with Carter-Vickers in Stoke City at the start of the campaign before rejoining the American on Kenilworth Road a few weeks ago.

The praise comes after another impressive performance against the play-offs chasing Swansea City. Luton remained clean sheets when they defeated the Swans 1-0 Carter-Vickers play the full 90 minutes.

The center-back has played 21 games in the championship this season and has seen a form upswing for Luton, who presided over a handful of draws and close wins.

His contract with Spurs expires in 12 months, but his experience in the second division with Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, Swansea, Stoke and Luton could put him on the radar of a number of championship clubs this summer.

Atalanta defender wants to move Spurs

Belgian full-back Timothy Chestnuts has expressed his wish to switch to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

In an interview with The last hour Castagne described how he felt “it is time to move on”.

Speaking to the Belgian outlet, Castagne added: “If a team like PSG or Tottenham knocks on your door, you can’t say ‘no’.”

The 24-year-old enjoyed his football education at KRC Genk, known for the development of young players, but is currently playing for the high-flying Serie A team Atalanta.

Chestnuts has played 16 times in Serie A this season for Gian Piero Gasperini’s team and is a current Belgian international.

Given the uncertainty surrounding Serge Aurier’s future and José Mourinho’s confidence in the Ivorians’ sway, a summer move could be imminent for a full-back of Castagne’s caliber and experience.

Zidane favorite in line for Spurs Switch

Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Vazquez was touted for a possible connection with former Madrid coach José Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 28-year-old hadn’t completely broken into the formation of the first team in Santiago Bernabéu during Mourinho’s tenure, but according to the Daily Mirror, the Portuguese should be interested in taking him to North London at a bargain price.

Vázquez’s contract expires in June 2021, and current Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has a plethora of younger attack options to choose from. This summer could give the Frenchman his last chance to sell the Spanish winger for a fee.

The Brazilian duo Rodrygo and Vinícius Júnior have emerged as potential substitutes in the last two seasons and, alongside the evergreen Karim Benzema, have grown stronger in the La Liga.

A multiple UEFA Champions League winner, Vazquez could give the Spurs squad a winning mentality.
