Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says it doesn’t look like talented young Angel Gomes will stay at Man Utd.
The highly rated 19-year-old, who is closely associated with Chelsea, went through the giant Old Trafford Academy and made his debut at the age of 16 in May 2017. He was the youngest player since Duncan Edwards to play for the first team.
But Gomes Solskjaer only played 10 games in the first team and the contract negotiations have reached a roadblock. Solskjaer now expects Man Utd’s midfielder to retire on Tuesday after his contract ends.

When asked if the 19-year-old would stay at the club, the United boss said, “I have no news, nothing, so it doesn’t look like it.”
Gomes was part of the triumph of the English U17 World Cup in 2017 and 11 days ago Solskjaer said he hoped the teenager would sign a new contractand added “hopefully it’s not too far from what I understand”.
To clarify whether Gomes would leave, Solskjaer added: “To be honest, I didn’t hear from them last night or this morning. So it seems that they didn’t manage to reach an agreement (a deal), so the answer is probably short and yes then. “
Gomes’ departure is far from a regular on the first team, but a blow to a club synonymous with promoting local talent.
Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood and Scott McTominay, along with Marcus Rashford, are regular guests of the youth.
Rashford is keen to make up for lost time after a back injury in January, but has yet to score since the game resumed amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“Of course Marcus has been gone for a while, but I think he looks sharp,” said Solskjaer The Premier League trip to Brighton on Tuesday.
“He came and looked sharp against Norwich again. He missed a chance or two against Sheffield United, but I think we’re going to concentrate on the goals he scored.
“I think Marcus is on his way to his best season at Man United. I’m just looking forward to getting more and more minutes. He will definitely score a goal soon. “
