Roy Keane is considered for the vacant leadership position of Azerbaijan.
The Sky Sports expert has had discussions with the association, which has not trained since leaving Nottingham Forest last year when he was Martin O’Neill’s deputy manager.
Previously, he worked under O’Neill at the Republic of Ireland and Aston Villa, as well as at Ipswich and Sunderland.
Azerbaijan was promoted to Group C of the League of Nations and confirmed that Keane was one of several candidates they looked at.
A statement from the Association of Football Associations of Azerbaijan states: “Roy Keane, along with several other candidates, is on the list of specialists negotiated by AFFA to be appointed head coach of the Azerbaijani national team.
“As we have previously reported, given the current situation and the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic around the world, it has not yet been possible to submit a candidate to the Executive Committee for discussion and to finalize the terms of the contract.”
Although Keane Sunderland led to the 2006/07 championship title, he was outstanding as a player at Manchester United, winning seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the League Cup and the Champions League, and the Intercontinental Cup.
