A repeated wanderer caught in the apartment of a woman who claimed to be looking for a lost golf ball was returned to custody today.

Chet Wilmot, 58, pleaded guilty to entering a home in Belmont Road, Warwick, without a legal apology on Saturday.

Magistrates ?? Court heard the woman residing in the apartment discover Wilmot in the living room, right inside a sliding glass door, around 12.40.

He confronted him and asked to know why he was at his house.

Wilmot said: ?? I’m looking for a golf ball. ??

The woman pushed him out the door and asked him where his golf clubs were.

He also took a picture of Wilmot and the police were unable to identify him.

Wilmot of Warwick was arrested about two hours later and admitted that he was in the photograph.

He told police he played golf on Belmont golf course when his ball bounced on a tree and on the woman’s property.

Wilmot claimed to have knocked on the apartment door and asked him if he could enter when the complainant entered like an angry bull.

The police spoke to the woman again, who said that when Wilmot left his property he went to the nearby houses, not the golf course.

Wilmot was sent to the Drug Court earlier this year after admitting six charges of wandering around Warwick and Paget, plus three theft offenses.

Michael Scott, who represented Wilmot, said that the defendant was trying to overcome drug addiction and needed assistance.

Scott said, “The main problem we face is illness and I hope the court will work with us so we can get the treatment sooner or later.

We must put in place the treatment and the healing done.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe sent Wilmot back to custody until the next Drug Treatment Court session and said he would discuss the case ?? and the possibility of bail ?? then.
