Poetic passage of the torch in line for n. 11

Chelsea’s current legendary number 11 is probably coming out, but another world-class player – who is wearing the same shirt – is coming.

Pedro wore the shirt n. 11 from the 2016/17 season at Stamford Bridge. His contract will expire at the end of the month and has been linked to a free transfer with multiple English, Spanish and Italian teams. It seems that the 32-year-old’s future is becoming clearer as he heads to Rome after his current agreement with Chelsea has expired.

However, another player wearing the same number is on his way to West London next season. Timo Werner has entered into a five-year contract with Blues in an RB Leipzig € 55 million deal. If Werner attacks with a shirt of the same number, Chelsea is ready to see a metaphorical passage of the torch from one football generation to the next through kit n. 11.

Pedro’s career at Chelsea has been full of awards, trophies and fascinating moments. He won the Premier League, the English Cup and the Europa League during his five-year stint at Stamford Bridge. He also scored 43 goals at the time, many of which dropped the spectators’ jaws to the ground.

He has been brought to the height of his career and has been very successful with the Blues, but his time has come as he is ready to face a different challenge. He created the blue kit n. 11 alone during his stay in West London and only fits the 32-year-old bows who give shirts to someone with the ability to overcome their inheritance.

Although different from Pedro in position and stature, Werner has many of the same qualities as Spanish. Both players are incredible directors who can create a little magic from nothing, but above all, the arrival of Werner represents a sort of rebirth at Chelsea. The blues are moving away from the mediocre transfers of past years and are starting to shape a list with glory in sight. Werner is only the beginning of a registry review.

While Pedro is one of Chelsea’s most impactful imports since his arrival, he has completed the team he was brought into. Werner has the opportunity to kick off an already solid list as a catalyst. The German striker will have the task of having an immediate impact on the side. This puts immense weight on the shoulders of the 24 year old, but also offers him a unique opportunity. If the advance thrives, Werner’s name could be mentioned in the same breath as another famous Chelsea striker wearing the number 11: Didier Drogba.

The next: What does the arrival of Werner mean for Chelsea’s attacking players

Werner may inherit Pedro’s number, but he has the opportunity to take the Chelsea shirt n. 11 from a fan favorite to worldwide icon status. Between Stuttgart and Leipzig Werner shared his talents with German fans; but at Chelsea, he has Europe’s eyes on him every week. A torch pass is only suitable for a shirt that carries so much history to Stamford Bridge.
