MLS announces that 18 players have tested positive

Major League Soccer announced on Sunday evening that a total of 18 players and six employees from 668 tests performed since early June had tested positive for COVID-19.

The league is expected to once again participate in the MLS Is Back tournament, which begins in Orlando on July 8.

The MLS says that it will “run two PCR tests approximately 72 hours apart prior to the start of the training every 24 hours and will continue the PCR tests every other day after the start of the training”.

The league officially ended its regular season on March 12, the day after Utah Jazz striker Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 and started a domino effect that brought much of the professional sports world to a standstill.
