The experienced striker set himself the goal of advancing to the Bundesliga with the team where he started his career. The task was completed – VfB Stuttgart took second place in the Bundesliga’s back room, while directly reaching the highest class.
– My dream was to end my career at this club. It is even better because we have finished the season successfully – said Gomez after the match against SV Darmstadt 98 in which he scored. For most games, the 34-year-old played the role of substitute, but he contributed to the team’s promotion by scoring seven goals.
During his career, Mario Gomez also represented the colors of Vfl Wolfsburg, Fiorentina and Bayern Munich. Robert Lewandowski was compared to him. That’s why the German representative left Bavaria, because a Polish striker appeared there and bit him out of the squad.
