Kevin De Bruyne: Liverpool are great, but Manchester City can still have a brilliant season

Man City star De Bruyne has forgotten the disappointment at EPL to focus on the FA Cup and Champions League.

Kevin De Bruyne said Manchester City could still create an unforgettable season even though Liverpool had just won the English Premier League title race.

City’s defeat of Chelsea ensured Jurgen Klopp’s men broke the league championship waiting for 30 years and De Bruyne admitted the Reds were worthy of victory.

“We have realized that it is impossible to chase Liverpool,” he said. “Failing to win is definitely disappointing, but I think we are honest enough to admit they are better this season.”

“I think we worked hard, we played baus, but it wasn’t enough. That’s a problem we have to admit.”

“If everything goes according to plan, we still have 13 or 14 matches left with a lot of targets that can be realized.”

Last season City won the domestic treble and now they still have a chance to add to the FA Cup, Champions League and Carabao Cup collections.

City’s adventure of defending the FA Cup will continue with an away match to Newcastle this weekend and De Bruyne said criticism came too quickly for Pep Guardiola’s men.

“Compared to most other teams, we are fine,” he added. “We are ranked second, which means that after Liverpool we are the next best team.”

“We still have a big chance in the FA Cup and Champions League. Imagine, if we can win. This season is definitely special. There are still a lot of games to be played and we can’t wait to act.”

When City failed to match the impressive performance of the last two seasons, De Bruyne remains charming with 16 assists and ten goals this season.

The 28-year-old star is a candidate for Best Player status, an award the City player has never received despite having four Premier League titles.

“Two years ago, I was ranked second and we dominated the league with a 20-point advantage. I don’t know how people make decisions.”

“I think the opportunity is still there. It’s not me who decides and I can make my own analysis of how the season goes. Whatever happens, in the end it remains fun, we’ll see.”
