Kazan will host a special Olympics in 2022

According to BUSINESS Online, Kazan was chosen as the venue for the winter special Olympic Games of 2022. This will be announced today at 12:00 in the news broadcast of Channel One. Games will be held from January 22 to 28.

Special Olympics has been organized since 1986. The movement itself has its origins in the late 60s, its initiator is called Eunice Kennedy Shriver – sister of the president of the USA John Kennedy. Until 1989, the Games were held exclusively in the United States.

Last winter special Olympics hosted the Austrian Graz in 2017. Also in the list of host cities are Pyeongchang (South Korea), Boise (USA), Nagano (Japan) and Anchorage (USA).

Athletes with intellectual disabilities participate in the Games. They must be over 8 years old. The program includes skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, as well as 100 and 400 meter races.

In 2022, Kazan will also host the World Volleyball Championship.
