Johnny Manziel has experienced so many ups and downs in the past ten years that it is difficult to remember that he is only 27 years old.

He has his whole life ahead of him – it just won’t include soccer. Manziel seems to agree with this idea and tells Don Williams about the Lubbock Avalanche Journal His time as a pro quarterback is over:

“I would probably characterize it in the past [my football career]. I have finally reached a point where I try to achieve happiness in life, not happiness on the soccer field.

“I know that a lot of people probably want me to come back and play and give him another chance, but I don’t know what it means to be a person and to find out what life is like as a young adult – to try to make it and Find out – if I’ve ever been in a better place than now. I can honestly say that I’m happy and do the right things to put a smile on my face every day, and that means more than going out and grind on a soccer field. “

The former Texas A&M star most recently played with the Memphis Express of the now disbanded Alliance of American Football. He played in just two games before the league dropped out and suffered a concussion on his second appearance that forced him to the sidelines.

Originally designed by Cleveland Browns with number 22 in 2014, Manziel admitted that he never did the off-field work it took to be successful. This continued after he flamed out of the league in 2015 and tried to make a comeback in the Canadian Football League.

“During the time I was drafted, I didn’t invest the time it took to be a great player and I don’t think my heart was in it,” said Manziel. “And I think it was the same when I returned to Canada. I really believed and really thought it was what I wanted to do and my heart wasn’t there and it worked the way it was. “

Manziel’s CFL career was shorter than his NFL attempt when he bounced between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes in 2018.

If this is really the end for Johnny Football, he still has a lot to offer. Manziel won the Heisman Trophy 2012, received the All-American Honors consensus and passed seven touchdowns in the NFL.

Few quarterbacks can say the same thing, and Manziel doesn’t seem to have to apologize for how his career has developed.

“People can call me any way they want,” Manziel said to Williams. “But at the end of the day I’m proud of what I’ve done. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished. I’ve improved myself. I’ve improved my family’s life. I’ve had the chance to do great college Playing football and it didn’t. ” I don’t train in the NFL and that’s fine. “
